John Waters’ HAIRSPRAY . . . coming 8/7!

5 Aug

Here it is. The original cult classic HAIRSPRAY directed by the one and only king of camp John Waters. It’s the early 1960s all over again via 1988. Ricki Lake made her acting debut playing spunky Tracy Turnblad, who sets out to be a dancer on the local tv show, The Corny Collins Show competing against reining queen Amber for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963. From the bouffant to the beehive to dance moves like “the bird” and lots of hairspray, watch Tracy help battle segregation and racial injustice. This star studded film was the last for Divine who passed away shortly after production. Performances by Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, and Jerry Stiller add to the magic of the movie.

HAIRSPRAY is brought to you by our awesome sponsors who make it all possible. This week we have Sunny’s Bar  and Hometown Bar-B-Que who will be serving up some pit-smoked meat just for you. There will be a Smoked French Dip with chips ($8, chips $1) and lemonade ($2). The combo goes for $10. There will also be a veggie option. As always Steve’s Key Lime Pie will take care of your sweet tooth with their famous key lime pie. They stay open late during the film series just for us.

See you tuesday!

ROADHOUSE . . . coming 7/31!

29 Jul

Come on down to the Double Deuce this Tuesday and spend the evening with your favorite mullet-sporting, philosophy-spouting bouncer. Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara, and John Doe of X star in the eighties so-bad-its-amazing cult-classic Roadhouse, brought to you by Rita and The O’Connell Organization. Rita, one of the newest restaurants to arrive on Van Brunt Street, will be on hand serving a dive-bar worthy dinner of nachos (think homemade nacho cheese, smoked beans, pork carnitas–the works!), and Steve’s Key Lime will stay open late so that you can partake of their singular tarts and swingles.

See you on the pier!

HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE . . . coming 7/10!

8 Jul

HandK

Summer’s here and the time is right for movies on the pier. And, if you’ve ever wondered what Ryan Reynolds, Neil Patrick Harris, a rabid raccoon, and those tender little burgers with those little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in your mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one have in common, then boy do we have a movie to kick off the summer film season for you! Starring John Cho and Kal Penn, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle is brought to you by Movers Not Shakers! and Red Hook Lobster Pound.

Worried you’re going to have an extreme case of the munchies on Tuesday night? Well never fear, because the Pound will be on hand serving their famous lobster rolls ($20), alongside Berkshire pork and bacon hot dogs ($4), chips ($2), lemonade and iced tea ($4 each). And as alway’s Steve’s will stay open late serving the most insanely delicious and authentic Key Lime pies you’ve ever had. See you at the pier!

Summer is upon us and in just one month so are Movies on the Pier! We can hardly wait for the season of sunsets and cinema to begin. As always, we’ve got a fantastic slate of films for you–from eighties cult classics to last year’s Oscar-winner for best animated picture to one of the great political satires of all time–all paired with some of the best food that Red Hook has to offer. In our opinion, it’s the best way to enjoy those lazy days of summer. And none of it would be possible without the support of our local sponsors.  HUGE thanks go out to them! Check out the complete schedule here and we’ll see you on the pier.

ARMAGEDDON . . . moving to Atelier Roquete!

29 Aug

Don’t cry Ben Affleck–just because the forecast is a washout doesn’t mean tonight’s screening is. That’s because we’re moving ARMAGEDDON to our rain location at Atelier Roquette at 63 Commerce Street between Van Brunt and Richards. Hometown will be making the trip with us, so come hungry for meatball subs and let’s close out this summer’s series right.

See you at Atelier!

ARMAGEDDON . . . coming 8/29!

25 Aug

Friends, it’s hard to believe but this Tuesday is our final film of the season and we’re going out like gangbusters with ARMAGEDDON. This 1998 Michael Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer extravaganza stars Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, Owen Wilson, Keith David, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Steve Buscemi and follows a rag-tag group of deep-core drillers sent into space on a last-ditch mission to prevent an asteroid from demolishing the earth.

ARMAGEDDON is being brought to you by Sunny’s Bar and Hometown Bar-B-Que, who will be with us at the pier serving up a dinner fit for a roughneck: beef and pork meatball heroes on a seeded Caputo’s hero, slathered in marinara sauce and herbed ricotta (arugula salad on the side).  And for the vegetarians, there’ll be an eggplant and mushroom variation–yum! We’ll take one of each.

And lest you forget, our dessert options are, as always, off the hook with Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies open across the parking lot, Dolce Brooklyn serving their hand-crafted gelato and sorbet, and KingLeche Cremes representing with their goats milk ice cream bars and fresh popcorn.

See you at the pier!

MINIONS . . . coming 8/22!

19 Aug

Join us this Tuesday for our second kids movie of the summer: MINIONS! Following the success of DESPICABLE ME, the yellow gibberish-talking, master-worshiping creatures got their own prequel, which follows lovable Kevin, Bob, and Stuart blindly leading their tribe through the ages, ever in search of the next evil tyrant to serve. Steve Carell returns as the voice of Gru, along with Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, and Geoffrey Rush.

MINIONS is brought to you by our awesome sponsors, Mark’s Pizza and Dolce Brooklyn, who will both be at the pier on Tuesday night serving pizza (plain and pepperoni), and gelato and sorbet. There will also be handcrafted goats milk ice-cream sandwiches from KingLeche Cremes, and as always Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will be open late across the parking lot serving their pies, tarts, and swingles.

See you at the pier with the kiddos!

DONNIE DARKO moving to Atelier Roquette tonight!

15 Aug

Well we’ve been pretty lucky with the weather this summer–but not today, I’m afraid. While the rain will likely clear up by showtime tonight, the ground at the pier is soaking wet. Thankfully the ladies at Home/Made have once again made their catering space at Atelier Roquette available for  just such an occasion. They’ll be opening up their doors at 63 Commerce Street at 7 PM and we’ll be screening at 8:30. And, not only will we have dinner from the Good Fork, and dessert from Dolce Brooklyn and KingLeche available, but we hear wine and beer will be as well.

So grab your blankets and chairs and we’ll see you at Atelier Roquette!

Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai . . . coming 8/8!

5 Aug

maxresdefault.jpg

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai is Jim Jarmusch’s most unique film and Red Hook Flicks is psyched to bring it to Valentino Pier on tuesday 8/8. Wrapping up the 90s, Ghost Dog, starring Forest Whitaker, tells the story of a loyal hit man with the moral code inspired by the Japanese Samurai tradition. Jarmusch and Whitaker create a surreal world where assassins, hip hop by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, and cinematic aesthetics collide to a make a thriller ride.

As always our local sponsors make it all possible, Movers Not Shakers! and Lobster Pound. On the menu, Lobster Pound will be gracing us with a delicious fare of Lobster Rolls ($20), burgers (singles $8, double $12), and hot dogs ($4). They will also have frozen watermelon salad for $8.

Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will be open across the parking lot selling tarts and swingles. Dolce Brooklyn and King Leche Cremes will treat us to a selection of handmade gelato, sorbet, and goat’s milk ice cream.

See you at the pier everybody!
