DONNIE DARKO moving to Atelier Roquette tonight!

15 Aug

Well we’ve been pretty lucky with the weather this summer–but not today, I’m afraid. While the rain will likely clear up by showtime tonight, the ground at the pier is soaking wet. Thankfully the ladies at Home/Made have once again made their catering space at Atelier Roquette available for  just such an occasion. They’ll be opening up their doors at 63 Commerce Street at 7 PM and we’ll be screening at 8:30. And, not only will we have dinner from the Good Fork, and dessert from Dolce Brooklyn and KingLeche available, but we hear wine and beer will be as well.

So grab your blankets and chairs and we’ll see you at Atelier Roquette!

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK . . . coming 7/12!

9 Jul

raiders 2This Tuesday Red Hook Flicks kicks off the 2016 series with RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Steven Spielberg’s homage to classic Saturday afternoon serial films, RAIDERS is often cited as one of the greatest movies of all time. Harrison Ford’s turn as as archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones helped solidify his rising star and adventure hero status as he outwits, out-whips, and out runs a host of nasty adversaries in a race to find the Ark of the Covenant before it falls into the hands of the Nazis.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is presented by RED HOOK BAIT & TACKLE and THE GOOD FORK, and for dinner the good people of The Good Fork are serving a special White Asp Bowl in honor of Mr. Jones and his special relationship with serpents: chilled somen noodles with kimchi spiked chili sauce, asian pear, cucumbers, summer vegetables, and soft boiled egg–what better way to beat the heat? STEVE’S AUTHENTIC KEY LIME PIES will be staying open late as always to dish out their singular key lime pies, tarts, swingles, and limeade. (Seriously, you have not had key lime pie until you’ve had Steve’s.) And Walter Youngblood is back this season with KING LECHE CREMES, his hand-crafted goats milk ice-cream bars. Sweet! The show starts at 8:30–or just as soon as it’s dark enough. See you at the pier!

Movies on the Pier Are Almost Here!

24 Jun

raidersofthelostarkWe know what you’re thinking . . . it’s nearly July, and that means BBQs! Fireworks!! The opening of The Red Hook Pool!!! And perhaps most importantly–ok, maybe to us–Movies on the Pier begins!!!!

And, boy, do we have a great season opener this year: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK  coming to you on July 12th. This is Spielberg and Harrison Ford at their finest. And we can’t wait to see what our friends over at The Good Fork are planning for dinner that night. In the meantime, we’re closing in on raising the funds necessary to cover our budget and bring you a full slate of eight great films this summer. We’ve got just $890 to go! To those of you who’ve shown their support already–we thank you! And for those of you who haven’t yet, we hope that if you’ve enjoyed watching a classic movie out on the waterfront on a hot summer night while eating amazing food from one of our fine local restaurants, then you’ll donate and help keep the series going.

Thanks to all and see you at the pier!

THE INCREDIBLES . . . coming 8/18!

16 Aug

incredibles

When THE INCREDIBLES premiered in 2004, this winning satire of super hero films and suburban family values pretty much cemented Pixar’s status as the top animation house in the game, while proving irresistible to both children and adults alike. The film, which went on the win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, stars the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Lee, Wallace Shawn, and Sarah Vowell. THE INCREDIBLES is brought to you by Red Hook Bait & Tackle and The Good Fork, who will be on hand serving a mighty incredible dinner: Incredible Meatloaf Sammys with Pickles and Potato Chips ($6 for one or two for $10; vegetarian option also available), and Incredible Lemonade ($3). And as a special treat, our friends from Scout’s Honor are making the drive down from Warren, Vermont to bring us their incredible small batch ice cream sandwiches and organic frozen fruit pops. (We highly recommend the French Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich, ourselves!) And of course Steve’s Key Lime will be staying open late across the parking lot selling their tarts, swingles, and limeade. It’s going to be a hell of a feast to beat the heat!

DAZED AND CONFUSED . . . coming 7/8!

6 Jul

DazedMMRAIN UPDATE: It’s looking a little iffy for later in the evening but since DAZED AND CONFUSED is only 90 minutes and we know how much you all love to be outside, we’re going to roll the dice and stick with it at the pier. That said, we are going to start PROMPTLY at 8:30. So be there early and bring some rain gear!

***

Long before the McConaissance that brought us MAGIC MIKE, DALLAS BUYERS CLUB, the spectacular weirdness of TRUE DETECTIVE and one previously inconceivable Oscar win, Matthew McConaughey was  just a young Texan with aspirations of stardom and a penchant for pot and naked bongo playing. This Tuesday we kick off the 2014 summer movie series with the film that gave McConaughey his first big break: Richard Linklater’s 1993 cult-classic DAZED AND CONFUSED! Come watch The Shirtless One wax philosophic about high school girls and why you gotta just keep on livin’ alongside Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck, and an uncredited Renee Zellweger–and catch a preview of Richard Linklater’s upcoming film BOYHOOD at the same time!

DAZED AND CONFUSED is brought to you by Red Hook Bait and Tackle and The Good Fork, who will be on hand with two delicious choices for dinner: vermicelli with Early Girl Farm vegetables, white soy ponzu, and shredded chicken ($7) or the highly-stoner-approved mac cheese with bacon and cheetos ($5)! Steve’s Key Lime will be open across the way selling their delicious tarts and swingles and our friends from Scout’s Honor Ice Cream are making the trip down from Vermont to bring us their amazing, hand-crafted ice-cream sandwiches and ice pops.

Dude.

KUNG FU PANDA . . . coming 7/16!

11 Jul

kung fu panda

In the Valley of Peace, Po the Panda finds himself chosen as the Dragon Warrior despite the fact that he is, well, a little on the portly side. Not to mention lazy. And knows sweet f*%k all about martial arts. But this of course does not stop him from rising to the challenge of becoming a master warrior and leading The Furious Five in a battle against the sinister snow leopard Tai Lung! If you like your martial arts heroes black and white and furry all over, then this one’s for you!

Kung Fu Panda is brought to you by Red Hook Bait and Tackle and The Good Fork.

And what’s on the menu for dinner you might ask? Well, Kung Pao Panda of course!

(We hear it tastes just like chicken.)

And for our vegetarian friends, there’s Kung Pao Tofu!

(Tastes just like panda.)

Both are served with rice and just $7. Yum! And in addition to Steve’s Key Lime Pies, our friend’s from Scout’s Honor Ice Cream will be making the drive all the way from Vermont to bring you their handcrafted frozen treats. Ska-doosh!

E.T. . . . coming 8/21

17 Aug

UPDATE–SPECIAL FOOD VENDOR:

In addition to the spectacular food being provided by The Good Fork and snacks from Home/Made and Steve’s, we’re very fortunate to have John Vitko of Scout’s Honor Creamery in Vermont here on Tuesday evening to sell his handcrafted treats:

Chocolate Chip Cookie Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich: $4
Vanilla Ice Cream Brownie Sandwich: $5
French Macaroon Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich: $6
Popcicles (grapefruit, cucumber mint, strawberry lemon, peaches n cream): $3
Plus a special pop just for adults–Mojito!: $4

We cannot wait!

***

This Tuesday join us at the pier for one of the great summer family films of all time. E.T. helped define the summer blockbuster with its wildly popular boy-meets-baby-alien-and-goes-head-to-head-against-nepharious-U.S.-government-forces-to-protect-him tale. It features Henry Thomas; Peter Coyote; Drew Barrymore, in what is surely her finest screen performance to date; and a contender for the world’s most expensive long distance call. Can you imagine if they remade E.T. today? He and Elliott would be stuck in development hell at iTunes trying to get their intergalactic telephony app approved. Ah, simpler times. But I digress…

Tuesday’s movie is brought to you by Bait & Tackle. Dinner by The Good Fork — Japanese Short Rib Curry with Farm Vegetables and Purple Rice, mmmm. Only $8! Snacks by Home/Made and Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies.

And don’t forget to come early to catch a classic Popeye cartoon courtesy of Sunny’s Bar.

As always, festivities begin circa 8:30 PM.

Karate Kid NOT rained out

9 Aug

We will be showing the KARATE KID at the Red Hook Bait and Tackle (Van Brunt and Pioneer streets).

Still at 8:30 p.m.

Good Fork will still be serving Mr. Miyagi Bento Boxes for dinner (come early and get one!)

Plus, this means we can drink! Here’s the Karate Kid drinking game:

Take a drink every time:

  • Danny Russo gets beat up.
  • Danny Russo looks beat up.
  • Whenever you see the Cobra Kai logo.
  • Every time some karate move is happening.

Now that almost makes it worth not having the movie at the pier!

Tonight! KARATE KID

9 Aug

Karate here. Karate no here.

Actually, Karate at Valentino Pier at 8:30 p.m. tonight. We’re showing the original KARATE KID with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi.
