Tonight! THE LIFE AQUATIC

7 Sep

Labor Day weekend doesn’t have to be over! Extend your holiday with a trip to Valentino Pier to catch THE LIFE AQUATIC, featuring Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. There are killer sharks, daddy issues, beautiful girls, neurosis and more. (It is, after all, a Wes Anderson movie.)

The O’Connell Organization, which owns and manages many of the buildings on the Red Hook waterfront, is sponsoring this evening. And we’ll have popcorn from Home/Made on sale for $1 per bag.

Come down early for a spot, but the movie rolls at 8:30 p.m.

TONIGHT! Princess & the Frog

31 Aug

Get ready for some romance. Disney’s PRINCESS AND THE FROG is up on Tues., Aug. 31, brought to us by Fairway. It’s set in New Orleans, y’all. And that’s practically Red Hook’s sister city.

And no complaining that it’s a Disney movie: I’ve had grown men (yes, plural) tell me the love this flick.

Set up begins at 8 p.m.; film will roll at 8:30 p.m.

As always, Home/Made popcorn will be available for $1. (All proceeds support the film series.)

26 Aug

Better late than never! The lovely Allison Hull  sent over amazing photos of our SPLASH evening. It was glorious weather and sunset — as the images prove.

For the whole reel, see the Flickr page.

CABIN BOY @ Bait & Tackle

24 Aug

CABIN BOY is now showing at the Red Hook Bait & Tackle.

NOT Valentino Pier.

NOT Kidd Yellin Gallery.

Come down to Van Brunt and Pioneer streets. Eat Good Fork bento boxes and Home/Made popcorn.

Plus… drink.

8:30 p.m.

CABIN BOY: Rain or Shine!

24 Aug

Never fear, the rain cannot dampen our spirits. CABIN BOY will go on!

If it’s not raining at 6 p.m., we’ll start setting up in Valentino Pier. If, however, it’s raining or the forecast is disgusting, we’ll be at our new rain location: Kid Yellin gallery.

To get to the gallery, get off the B61 bus at Verona Street. Walk one block toward the water until you get to Imlay Street. Turn left and go to 133 Imlay Street.

The evening’s sponsor, The Good Fork, will have Chef Souhi’s Bento Picnic boxes on site for $15. Plus, popcorn from Home/Made available for $1.

See you at the movies!

Help Pay Willis’ Vet Bill

17 Aug

Meet Willis. He’s a friend of Red Hook Films. And, as many of you know, a star in Red Hook.

But he was suddenly taken very, very ill (vomit, fever, lethargy, dehydration, the works.) and had to spend the weekend in the emergency vet.

He’s finally on the mend and back home, although the vets don’t know exactly what was wrong. What they do know is that the bill will be, well, huge.

Now, Willis’ mom, Erin, isn’t exactly rolling in cash. She’s been trying to open Grindhaus, a new sausage palace here in Red Hook.

So if anyone has it in their heart to help a girl out, Erin would be most grateful. As would Wills. And so would Red Hook Films, because these are our friends. And friends help each other out.

How do you get to be a part of this love fest, you ask?

DONATE tonight at SPLASH. Look for the bucket by the popcorn booth.

Aug. 10: Secret of Roan Inish

6 Aug

What do the Village Voice, the New York Post and New York Times all agree on? THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH.

The Voice called it a “lyric romance for all the ages,” while the Times called it “wonderous.” Even Rolling Stone fell in love.

Photos: Jaws!

5 Aug

More great photos by Allison Hull. (Thanks, Allison!) To see the whole reel, visit the Flickr page.

We had a huge turnout — pushing 300 people — for Jaws, and the most amazing weather and sunset. Plus, Ethan on his Shark Bike was a hit. (I’ve heard requests for a mermaid-themed bike for Splash.)

It couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for all of us first-timers to Jaws.

A special thanks to our evening’s sponsor, the Bait and Tackle, for making this all possible.
