Wondering where everyone is? Well, the rain has come and gone and we’re down at the Pier tonight! See you for the sunset, Fort D’s fried chicken, Dolce gelato and more.

RAIN?@#$%?!

10 Jul

Well . . . when you’re an outdoor film series, it happens. Sometimes even on opening night. But never fear, Atelier Roquette has once again offered us their gorgeous event space as our rain-out location! And that means means that on top of dinner from Fort Defiance and ice cream and gelato from KingLeche and Dolce Brooklyn, there will be wine and beer for sale. So while we’re definitely keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies, it’s not a bad trade off. Tune in to this space tomorrow, and we’ll make the rain call by 6 PM.

FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF . . . coming 7/11!

7 Jul

We know you’re still recovering from your red-white-and-blue, gunpowder-hotdogs-and apple-pie hangover–not to mention the rude reality of returning to work–but don’t despair! While one celebration has ended, another is just beginning. This Tuesday marks the first night in the eight week party that is Red Hook Flicks’ Movies on the Pier and we’re kicking things off right with a John Hughes classic: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. While a career-making film for Matthew Broderick as the titular proto-slacker, the film also stars a veritable who’s who of eighties Hollywood, including: Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones, Jennifer Grey, Ben Stein, and Charlie Sheen.

Ferris Bueller is brought to you via the generous support of DRY DOCK WINE + SPIRITS and FORT DEFIANCE. Fort D will be on deck that night serving skillet-fried buttermilk chicken, cheddar biscuits, coleslaw, and bread and butter pickles ($13 for the combo); and, as always, Steve’s Key Lime Pies will be open across the parking lot slinging their signature pies and swingles. KingLeche Cremes returns with their goat’s milk ice cream bars and popcorn. And this year Dolce Brooklyn will be gracing us with their handmade gelato and sorbetto.

So, come hungry people and we’ll see you on the pier! Chick chicka chick-ahhh….

Our 2017 Schedule is Live!

8 Jun

You wouldn’t know it from the cloudy, soggy weather of late, but we’re just under two weeks out from the official start of Summer. Of course down in Red Hook, summer doesn’t really feel like it’s hit full swing until you’re lounging under the setting sun at Valentino Pier, eating some amazing local food, and watching one of our favorite movies–which is why we’re excited to announce that our  Summer 2017 Red Hook Flicks schedule is now live and can be viewed here! We’ve got another season of great movies planned for you and all thanks to our local sponsors, without whom none of this would happen. So, three cheers for them and see you at the pier!

Summer is Coming!

14 May

The official start of summer is a little over a month away. And here at Red Hook Flicks, that means one thing: Movies on the Pier are almost here! We’ve been working hard to put together a slate of great movies to help while away those balmy nights by Buttermilk Channel. Keep your eyes peeled because we’ll be announcing soon!

ALIENS . . . coming 8/30!

28 Aug

aliens-sigourney-weavor_610_0

This Tuesday is our final movie of the season and we’re going out like gangbusters with ALIENS! It’s hard to believe ALIENS turns 30 this year. It’s one of the rare sequels that stands up to the original, in no small part because rather than trying to ape the moody, deliberate thriller of Ridley Scott’s original classic, James Cameron smartly went for a complete tonal shift with this action-packed sci-fi/horror tour-de-force. What both films do share, of course, is one of the great screen heroines of all time: Sigourney Weaver’s kick-ass Ellen Ripley. Joining her is Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxton, and Lance Henriksen. You don’t want to miss it.

ALIENS is brought to you by DRY DOCK and FORT DEFIANCE, who will be at the park serving dinner alongside Walter Youngblood’s KingLeche Cremes goats milk ice cream bars. Steve’s Key Lime Pies will stay open late for us serving tarts, pies, swingles, and limeades; and as a special treat for closing night Red Hook’s own Dolce Brooklyn will be there with their handcrafted gelato. It’s going to be dessert heaven.

See you at the pier!

LABYRINTH . . . coming 8/23!

21 Aug

Labyrinth_1986_923

It’s been a tough year for our idols, and the Thin White Duke was no exception. We lost David Bowie back in January, just two days after the release of his final album BLACK STAR. In his honor, we’re showing his beloved kid’s film LABYRINTH this Tuesday at the pier. Written by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, directed by Jim Henson, and produced by George Lucas, the film stars Bowie as the Goblin King, and Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, a young girl who must solve the titular maze and rescue her baby brother.

LABYRINTH is brought to you by SHARED BROOKLYN and POK POK NY, who will be joining us at the pier to serve a dinner of Khao Man Som Tam–green papaya salad with coconut rice, sweet shredded pork, fried shallots, and cilantro ($10). And fear not when it comes to your sweet tooth because KingLeche Cremes and Steve’s Key Lime will have your back when it comes to dessert.

As a special bonus, we’ll also be opening with a short film from Digital Media Bootcamp, a summer filmmaking workshop run in partnership by South Brooklyn Community High School, Good Shepherd Services, Red Hook Initiative, and Dance Theater Etc.

See you at the pier!

PITCH PERFECT moving to Atelier Roquette!

16 Aug

3As much as we do everything we can here at Red Hook Flicks to keep our screenings at Valentino, there are some days where the weather is just too dicey. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the radar and it’s showing two stubborn bands of rain heading straight for the pier this evening right during prime set up and screening time. And since our rain space at Atelier Roquette is so incredible (and has a liquor license!) we’re going to head on over there for tonight’s showing of PITCH PERFECT. And don’t worry, Big Red, the Pound’s food truck will be joining us there as well so you all can get your lobster roll fix. See you at Atelier! Screening starts at 8:30.

PITCH PERFECT . . . coming 8/16!

14 Aug

Perfect-pitch-perfect-31854759-500-228

All right pitches, this Tuesday we’re bringing you the 2012 comedy favorite PITCH PERFECT! Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks, and Adam Devine, the film follows the Barden Bellas, a once championship, all-girl college a cappella group trying to sing its way back from disgrace as they square off against their male rivals, The Treblemakers.

PITCH PEFECT is being brought to you by Movers Not Shakers and The Red Hook Lobster Pound, and you know what that means–Big Red, The Pound’s food truck will be at the pier serving dinner. On the menu for Tuesday are Red Hook Dawgs (Berkshire pork and bacon wieners–$4), Watermelon Feta Salad ($6), and of course The Pound’s signature Lobster Roll ($19). Pair those with a key lime pie and limeade from Steve’s, or a KingLeche Cremes ice-cream bar and you’ve got a perfect meal for a sweltering night.

See you at the pier–it’s going to be a-ca-awesome!

RESERVOIR DOGS . . . coming 8/9!

7 Aug

reservoir-dogs-facts-trivia-20th-anniversary

Like K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the Seventies Weekend, over here at Red Hook Flicks we just keep on trucking . . . Next in our line-up is Quentin Tarantino’s first and one of his best films–RESERVOIR DOGS. Starring Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Laurence Tierney, the voice of comedian Steven Wright, and Tarrantino himself, the darkly comic heist-gone-awry picture caused an uproar when it first premiered at Sundance and set the template for Tarrantino’s signature style of rapid-fire, pop-culture infused banter, gleeful profanity, heightened violence, and narrative gymnastics. Itself an homage to Tarrantino’s favorite films, RESERVOIR DOGS helped set off the golden age of independent filmmaking that was the nineties and its imitators are legion.

RESERVOIR DOGS is brought to you by WATERFRONT KITCHENS and PIZZA MOTO, who is motoring over to the park with their hand-made mobile wood-fired oven on Tuesday. They’ll be serving margherita, pepperoni, and mushroom pizzas ($3/slice); San Pelligrino limonata and aranciata ($2.00); and they’ll even make vegan pies on request! KingLeche Cremes will be back with their goats milk ice cream bars. And Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will stay open late as usual for us.

See you at the pier!
