Summer Is Coming

3 Apr

Ok, a little Game of Thrones humor. But really…summer is almost here.

We are diligently working on planning the 2012 season of Red Hook Flicks. (Yes, there is a name change. Long story. Update your bookmarks.)

What we can tell you: The movies will again be shown at Valentino Pier on Tuesday evenings, beginning July 10.

Watch this space for news on our annual fundraiser and final movie selections.

Sept. 6: HIGHLANDER!

5 Sep

There can be only one!

Watch the immortals fight to the end — in kilts! Plus, it’s a great film for New York City spotting. And, there’s the Queen soundtrack.

(When I first moved to the city, I wanted to live on Hudson Street because the Highlander is an antiques dealer on Hudson Street. And he had a *sweet* pad. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the trailer. You won’t be able to resist.)

Join us at 8:3o p.m. on September 6 for HIGHLANDER, brought to us by Pickett Furniture.

DUE TO THE RAIN WE WILL BE AT BAIT AND TACKLE, located on the corner of Pioneer and Van Brunt Streets.

And here’s Jeremy Pickett, our sponsor, doing his best highlander impression.

August 30: PUMP UP THE VOLUME

29 Aug

Talk hard!

We’re still planning to show PUMP UP THE VOLUME tomorrow night (August 30) despite Hurricane Irene’s best intentions to shut down Valentino Pier.

The ground is drying out and the weather is promising to be gorgeous!

The evening’s sponsor is FORT DEFIANCE, and owner St. John Frizell is serving up a tasty-sounding menu: cold fried chicken, coleslaw, lemonade and sweet tea. Mmmm.

As always, we’ll have popcorn from Home/Made for sale for just $1 — and all proceeds benefit the films series. No popcorn tonight. It’s been a crazy week for us all down here in Red Hook!

Hope to see you all down in Zone A on Tuesday night!

And here’s St. John doing his best Christian Slater impression — with cocktail shakers!

Tonight! KARATE KID

9 Aug

Karate here. Karate no here.

Actually, Karate at Valentino Pier at 8:30 p.m. tonight. We’re showing the original KARATE KID with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi.

Sponsors RED HOOK BAIT & TACKLE and THE GOOD FORK will be serving dinner: Mr. Miyagi Bento Boxes. Come see what surprise will be inside.

Plus, we’ll have popcorn from Home/Made for $1 per bag (all proceeds benefit the film series).

IN CASE OF RAIN: We will be showing the film at the Red Hook Bait and Tackle, located at Van Brunt and Pioneer streets. Watch this site — and Twitter handle @redhookfilms — for details.

August 9: Karate Kid

4 Aug

Daniel-san!

Don’t miss the original KARATE KID, showing on August 9 at Valentino Pier. We’ll even have Mr. Miagyi Bento Boxes from night’s sponsors, THE GOOD FORK and THE RED HOOK BAIT AND TACKLE.

Here’s Barry and Karin, from Bait and Tackle, doing their best Karate Kid impression. (Photo by Craig LaCourt) But are they Daniel and Miyagi or Cobra Kai?

Wax on, wax off!

The O’Connells are the Fast and the Furious

4 Aug

Look at this amazing new sponsor photo from Craig LaCourt Photography.

He shot the O’Connell brothers down at the pier in their sweet ride, showing off before they sponsor The Fast and The Furious on August 16.

Tonight! WALL-E

2 Aug

Cute robot. That is all you need to know. Just watch this clip.

Movie starts at 8:30 p.m.; the evening’s sponsor, Brooklyn Ice House, will be serving dinner starting around 7 or 7:30 p.m. They’ll have mac and cheese, hot dogs and other kid-friendly fare.

August 2: Wall-E

30 Jul

WALL-E!

Cute robot with sad puppy dog eyes. Need we say more? (Seriously. Compare the photo of WALL-E, above, and my dog, Madeline, below, and tell me those eyes don’t match.)

Come check out Wall-E’s adventures on Tuesday, August 6. Movie starts about 8:30 p.m.

The evening’s sponsor,THE BROOKLYN ICE HOUSE, will be serving dinner that’s kid appropriate: mac and cheese, hot dogs and pork sliders. Plus, there’s always $1 popcorn from our other sponsor, Home/Made.

In fact, here’s Ice House owner Trevor Budd preparing for the festivities:

See you at Valentino Pier!

July 12, 2011: Men in Black!

7 Jul

I call it MEN IN BLACK. My friend Shannon likes to call it PUG IN BLACK. Whatever you call it, the adventures of Kay, Jay and Frank the Pug are about to hit the big screen at Valentino Pier. They’re protecting the Earth from the scum of the universe.

Be sure to come hungry: The Red Hook Lobster Pound, the evening’s sponsor, will be on site selling lobster rolls and more crustacean-y goodness. AND there will be warm gourmet popcorn from Home/Made for just a buck (proceeds all benefit the movie series).

Film rolls around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Valentino Pier.
