2011 Season Coming Soon!

13 Mar

Elvis the Dog sez: The 2011 season is coming soon!

We’re in the planning process now and will be announcing our schedule in the coming months. And as always, it will be a low-key, dog-friendly affair.

Watch here for details about the fundraiser and party where we’ll unveil the season.

In the meantime, if you’ve got a favorite movie you’d like to see, leave it in the comments.

Can’t wait to see you at the pier.

See you next summer!

The crowd gathers for Jaws!

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Red Hook Films Summer 2010 season. We hope you had as amazing a time as we did. Remember the shark bike at Jaws? Or the screen falling over during Pirates of the Caribbean? Or having to show Cabin Boy inside Bait & Tackle? Even that damned ice cream truck seems amusing now.

We’ll be back for summer 2011, so watch this site next spring for the new schedule. But, we are always looking to add more people to the organizing committee. If you’re interested in joining us next season, email redhookfilms@gmail.com.

Before we part ways, however, we need to say some very special thank yous. This season could not have happened without the support of Red Hook’s very generous and kind local businesses. Here’s to y’all:

Bait & Tackle: Thank you for everything. For hosting the fundraiser. For showing Cabin Boy when it was raining. For helping to cover up those pesky lights. You were there for us all.summer.long.

Brooklyn Ice House: Thank you for being with us all the way to the end. The brownies, mac and cheese and BBQ were worth it!

Fairway:Thanks for bringing us the Princess & the Frog and showing that you support the Red Hook community. We don’t forget it.

Fort Defiance: You were our rain sponsor and got lucky that it was such a clear and beautiful summer. But nonetheless, we appreciated that you were there for us if we needed you. Even on your one night off.

Good Fork: Those bento boxes were amazing. And you totally rolled with the bad weather for your Cabin Boy night. And helped make it perfect and cozy inside Bait & Tackle. Plus, it was always great to see your smiling faces as we were setting up.

Movers Not Shakers: Thanks for your faith in the series and being the first to sign on — and host the very first night. It means so much.

Home/Made: Popcorn! Popcorn! Popcorn! How can we thank you enough for spending hours every Tuesday popping us dozens of bags of popcorn? Each night was a bigger success because you were there for us.

O’Connell Organization: You signed on to this project immediately and provided moral support through the summer. Thank you for being there and giving back to the Red Hook community.

Pickett Furniture: You’re a small business in the middle of tough times. Yet you stepped up and helped us keep this series alive. That is so heart-warming.

Red Hook Community Justice Center: Of course, we couldn’t do this series without you. Red Hook is so lucky to have you all.

Red Hook Lobster Pound: You totally got the community spirit of this event and came out to do lobster rolls during Deep Blue Sea, despite it being your one night off. We can’t thank you enough!

Botta di Vino, Metal and Thread, Dry Dock Wine + Spirits, Foxy & Winston, Red Lipstick, Tiburon, Uncle Louie G: Thank you for your support. It was so touching that all of you belived in Red Hook Films enough to join forces and sponsor Splash. It is tough times all around, and your collaboration to help us was so inspiring.

Tonight! THE LIFE AQUATIC

7 Sep

Labor Day weekend doesn’t have to be over! Extend your holiday with a trip to Valentino Pier to catch THE LIFE AQUATIC, featuring Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. There are killer sharks, daddy issues, beautiful girls, neurosis and more. (It is, after all, a Wes Anderson movie.)

The O’Connell Organization, which owns and manages many of the buildings on the Red Hook waterfront, is sponsoring this evening. And we’ll have popcorn from Home/Made on sale for $1 per bag.

Come down early for a spot, but the movie rolls at 8:30 p.m.

TONIGHT! Princess & the Frog

31 Aug

Get ready for some romance. Disney’s PRINCESS AND THE FROG is up on Tues., Aug. 31, brought to us by Fairway. It’s set in New Orleans, y’all. And that’s practically Red Hook’s sister city.

And no complaining that it’s a Disney movie: I’ve had grown men (yes, plural) tell me the love this flick.

Set up begins at 8 p.m.; film will roll at 8:30 p.m.

As always, Home/Made popcorn will be available for $1. (All proceeds support the film series.)

CABIN BOY: Rain or Shine!

24 Aug

Never fear, the rain cannot dampen our spirits. CABIN BOY will go on!

If it’s not raining at 6 p.m., we’ll start setting up in Valentino Pier. If, however, it’s raining or the forecast is disgusting, we’ll be at our new rain location: Kid Yellin gallery.

To get to the gallery, get off the B61 bus at Verona Street. Walk one block toward the water until you get to Imlay Street. Turn left and go to 133 Imlay Street.

The evening’s sponsor, The Good Fork, will have Chef Souhi’s Bento Picnic boxes on site for $15. Plus, popcorn from Home/Made available for $1.

See you at the movies!

Tonight: SPLASH

17 Aug

This week we bring you the movie that made Tom Hanks, John Candy and Daryl Hannah stars: SPLASH! (It was even nominated for an Oscar. Go figure.)

Aug. 10: Secret of Roan Inish

6 Aug

What do the Village Voice, the New York Post and New York Times all agree on? THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH.

The Voice called it a “lyric romance for all the ages,” while the Times called it “wonderous.” Even Rolling Stone fell in love.

Shark Bike

4 Aug

The awesome. Need we say more?

(Ok, in case we do: Ethan made a Shark Bike for JAWS, which was showing at Valentino Pier during Shark Week.)

Tonight: JAWS

3 Aug

Turns out, this is “Shark Week” on the Discovery Channel. Well, there will also be sharks at Valentino Pier. JAWS is finally here.

JAWS turns 35 this year, and we’re ready to celebrate on Tues., Aug. 3.

Come early to get a picnic spot (this promises to be busy!); film will start around 8:30 p.m.

AFTER PARTY: Bait and Tackle, the evening’s sponsor, will be hosting a post-JAWS after party. Get your $1 drink ticket at the movie and then head down to the bar and share a round with fellow JAWS fanatics. There will also be $4 pints of Stella and fish-themed snacks (gummy sharks, gold fish, Swedish fish).

BOOZE: Alcohol is illegal in New York City parks, and the local cops are threatening come by this week and ticket for open containers. Fair warning.

August 3: Jaws
