Perfect-pitch-perfect-31854759-500-228

All right pitches, this Tuesday we’re bringing you the 2012 comedy favorite PITCH PERFECT! Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks, and Adam Devine, the film follows the Barden Bellas, a once championship, all-girl college a cappella group trying to sing its way back from disgrace as they square off against their male rivals, The Treblemakers.

PITCH PEFECT is being brought to you by Movers Not Shakers and The Red Hook Lobster Pound, and you know what that means–Big Red, The Pound’s food truck will be at the pier serving dinner. On the menu for Tuesday are Red Hook Dawgs (Berkshire pork and bacon wieners–$4), Watermelon Feta Salad ($6), and of course The Pound’s signature Lobster Roll ($19). Pair those with a key lime pie and limeade from Steve’s, or a KingLeche Cremes ice-cream bar and you’ve got a perfect meal for a sweltering night.

See you at the pier–it’s going to be a-ca-awesome!

RESERVOIR DOGS . . . coming 8/9!

7 Aug

reservoir-dogs-facts-trivia-20th-anniversary

Like K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the Seventies Weekend, over here at Red Hook Flicks we just keep on trucking . . . Next in our line-up is Quentin Tarantino’s first and one of his best films–RESERVOIR DOGS. Starring Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Laurence Tierney, the voice of comedian Steven Wright, and Tarrantino himself, the darkly comic heist-gone-awry picture caused an uproar when it first premiered at Sundance and set the template for Tarrantino’s signature style of rapid-fire, pop-culture infused banter, gleeful profanity, heightened violence, and narrative gymnastics. Itself an homage to Tarrantino’s favorite films, RESERVOIR DOGS helped set off the golden age of independent filmmaking that was the nineties and its imitators are legion.

RESERVOIR DOGS is brought to you by WATERFRONT KITCHENS and PIZZA MOTO, who is motoring over to the park with their hand-made mobile wood-fired oven on Tuesday. They’ll be serving margherita, pepperoni, and mushroom pizzas ($3/slice); San Pelligrino limonata and aranciata ($2.00); and they’ll even make vegan pies on request! KingLeche Cremes will be back with their goats milk ice cream bars. And Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will stay open late as usual for us.

See you at the pier!

BEVERLY HILLS COP . . . coming 8/2!

31 Jul

beverly-hills-cop-4-release-date-570x294Detroit schools L.A. this Tuesday in BEVERLY HILLS COP! The highest grossing film world-wide in 1984 and the movie that cemented Eddie Murphy’s status as a superstar, BEVERLY HILLS COP also features Judge Reinhold along with brief but brilliant turns by BREAKING BAD’s Jonathan Banks, and Damon Wayans in his big screen debut. If that’s not enough, the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack features one of the great 80s synth-pop earworms of all time: “Axel F.”

So come hum along with us at the pier this tuesday where BEVERLY HILLS COP is being brought to you by The O’Connell Organization and Hometown BBQ. Hometown will be on hand serving something smokey and delicious for dinner. And, as always, Steve’s Key Lime will be open across the way serving tarty goodness in the form of his signature key lime pies, swingles, and limeade; and of course  KingLeche Cremes will be slinging their hand-made goats milk ice cream bars, as well.

THE LEGO MOVIE…coming tomorrow, 7/26!

25 Jul

the_lego_movie2014.jpg

This Tuesday we’ll be showing the first kids’ movie of the 2016 season, THE LEGO MOVIE. The animated hit from 2014 was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and features an eclectic slew the voices of of some of our favorite actors including Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman, and Elizabeth Banks (we’ll all be seeing Ms. Banks onscreen in a couple of weeks when we show PITCH PERFECT on August 16). Don’t be fooled by the “kids’ movie” label; when it came out a couple of years ago, A.O. Scott, the notoriously hard-to-please film critic at the New York Times, said THE LEGO MOVIE “hums with wit and imagination.”

THE LEGO MOVIE is presented Pickett Furniture, a beloved longtime sponsor of Red Hook Flicks,  and The Brooklyn Ice House, another neighborhood staple and staunch supporter of the film series. The Ice House is serving dinner, and there’ll be some special treats available too; in addition to the traditional pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw ($5) and macaroni and cheese ($5), Ice House is serving empanadas! Short rib or green chicken chili & cheese, $5 each. For dessert there’s always Steve’s Key Lime Pie, located just outside the park, and KingLeche Cremes will be on hand selling hand-crafted goat’s milk ice cream pops.

So come down to the pier tomorrow night and enjoy the food, the sunset and the movie. See you there!

Dearly Beloved…

We lost Prince Rogers Nelson much too soon, and I’m sure many of you, like us, are still shedding a purple tear over his passing. So this week we pay tribute to Minneapolis’s favorite son with the movie that launched him into the stratosphere–PURPLE RAIN.  Starring Prince, Morris Day and the Time, Wendy, Lisa, and the rest of the Revolution, and introducing Apollonia, the loosely autobiographical film won an Oscar for Best Original Score and the accompanying album is widely cited as one of the greatest of all time and is without doubt Prince’s magnum opus.

PURPLE RAIN is brought to you by  Sunny’s and Home/Made, who will be on hand this week serving Home/Made ricotta on charred filone with fresh peaches, heirloom tomatoes, and basil; plus popcorn, lemonade, and special treats sure to make a dove cry. If that doesn’t sate you, Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies is open across the way selling their pies, tarts, and swingles, and KingLeche Cremes will be selling their hand-crafted goats milk ice-cream bars. So much goodness, it’s hard to wait! But hang tough children, Tuesday will be here before you know it.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK . . . coming 7/12!

9 Jul

raiders 2This Tuesday Red Hook Flicks kicks off the 2016 series with RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Steven Spielberg’s homage to classic Saturday afternoon serial films, RAIDERS is often cited as one of the greatest movies of all time. Harrison Ford’s turn as as archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones helped solidify his rising star and adventure hero status as he outwits, out-whips, and out runs a host of nasty adversaries in a race to find the Ark of the Covenant before it falls into the hands of the Nazis.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is presented by RED HOOK BAIT & TACKLE and THE GOOD FORK, and for dinner the good people of The Good Fork are serving a special White Asp Bowl in honor of Mr. Jones and his special relationship with serpents: chilled somen noodles with kimchi spiked chili sauce, asian pear, cucumbers, summer vegetables, and soft boiled egg–what better way to beat the heat? STEVE’S AUTHENTIC KEY LIME PIES will be staying open late as always to dish out their singular key lime pies, tarts, swingles, and limeade. (Seriously, you have not had key lime pie until you’ve had Steve’s.) And Walter Youngblood is back this season with KING LECHE CREMES, his hand-crafted goats milk ice-cream bars. Sweet! The show starts at 8:30–or just as soon as it’s dark enough. See you at the pier!

comingtoamerica-blog480

This Eddie Murphy classic answers the age-old question: Where does a poor-little-rich crown prince of Zamunda go to find a bride? Why, Queens of course! (And more precisely, a now unrecognizable Long Island City–but, hey, back then that’s where you went for all your romantic needs, not to mention fast food franchise rip-offs.) Murphy re-teams with TRADING PLACES director John Landis and stars alongside James Earl Jones and Arsenio Hall in this 80s comedy classic, brought to you this Tuesday by MOVERS NOT SHAKERS and RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND! The Pound’s food truck, Big Red, will be on site serving three kinds of lobster rolls ($17 each), hot dogs ($5), and more; Steve’s Key Lime will stay open late slinging their tarts and swingles; and F & M Bagels will be on hand with beverages. So bust out your Soul Glo, cue up your Sexual Chocolate records, and we’ll see you at the pier!

JURASSIC PARK . . . coming 7/7!

5 Jul

jurassic-park-first-sighting-550x294

We see you sitting there, dejectedly eating your leftover potato salad and hotdogs amid spent roman candles and sparklers, forlorn that the holiday weekend is over. But while the countrywide party that is our nation’s birthday may be behind us, the summer-long party that is Red Hook Flicks is just beginning! And have we got a monster-sized opening night for you.

Just a few weeks ago JURASSIC WORLD broke all box office records to become the biggest opening weekend of all time. Now you can see where it all began with Steven Spielberg’s original dino-chomps-man extravaganza, JURASSIC PARK! Based on Michael Chricton’s blockbuster novel, the film stars Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, and Samuel Jackson as they desperately attempt to outsmart a nasty pack of genetically engineered dinosaurs on the rampage.

JURASSIC PARK is presented by SHARED and EARLY BIRD FOODS + SALVATORE BKLYN. EARLY BIRD and SALVATORE will be serving porchetta sandwiches with home made pickles ($10) and granola bars ($3); STEVE’S KEY LIME will be open across the parking lot and serving their pies, tarts, and swingles; and KING LECHE CREMES will be on site with their hand-crafted goats milk ice cream bars. Show starts at 8:30 PM. See you at the pier!

24 Aug

It’s hard to believe but this tuesday is our final film of the 2014 series– and it’s also the one that you, the audience, voted for! Our Neighborhood Choice this season is Elia Kazan’s 1954 classic ON THE WATERFRONT. Set in Red Hook, but filmed in Hoboken, ON THE WATERFRONT is based on a series of Pulitzer-Prize winning articles by Malcolm Johnson that examined the crime-riddled world of the New York docks. The film stars Marlon Brando as  the once-promising boxer Terry Malone as he attempts to stand up to his corrupt union bosses, and also features Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Steiger, and, in her big-screen debut, Eva Marie Saint. It was nominated for a dozen Academy Awards, and won eight, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Brando, and Best Supporting Actress for Saint.

ON THE WATERFRONT is brought to you by MOVERS NOT SHAKERS and RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND, who will be serving their extraordinary lobster rolls (both Connecticut and Maine styles–$16), Red Hook Dawgs ($4), and Cape Cod Chips ($2). Plus as always, Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will be open late across the parking lot and selling their tarts, pies, and swingles, King Leche Cremes will be on hand with their hand-crafted goats milk ice cream, and Heba Deli will be serving beverages. So come on down and celebrate the end of summer in style!
