COCO . . . coming 8/21!

19 Aug

Señoras y señores join us for COCO! This family movie was a hit in theaters, grossing over $800 million worldwide. Its sensitive portrayal of Mexican culture and rich language earned COCO great accolades by critics and moviegoers alike. Set against the backdrop of a small town in Mexico during the Day of the Dead celebrations, we follow young Miguel struggling to make sense of his family’s generations-old ban on music. His own talent and passion for old rancheras sung by his idol, the late Hector De La Cruz, incite a yearning to break with his family’s tradition. In the process he pays tribute to the rich musical heritage of his country and the mythology behind the Day of the Dead when he crosses over to the Land of the Dead. Stunning visuals and catchy songs add to this magical world.

Coco is brought to you by Brooklyn Ice House and Erie Basin.

Ice House will be serving up some tasty grub of pulled pork sandwiches ($6), mac and cheese ($5), and flavored seltzer ($2).

Don’t forget to save room for Steve’s singular tarts, swingles- or what heck, just get a whole pie!

Check back here for weather updates or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See you Tuesday.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS . . . coming 8/14!

12 Aug

lecterclarice

Do you have what it takes to dive into the mind of a serial killer? Find out this Tuesday at our screening of Silence of the Lambs. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, Silence of the Lambs dominated the Oscars after it’s release in 1991, becoming only the third film in history to win the “Big Five” (Best Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay, and Picture) and the only horror film ever to do so. In part this was due to a tour de force performance by Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter–voted the greatest screen villain of all time by AFI–and an equally compelling performance by Foster as FBI cadet Clarice Starling.

Silence of the Lambs is brought to you by our old friends at Waterfront Kitchens and The Good Fork. For your dining pleasure, Steve’s will be staying open late for us as usual to calm your fears with his key lime pie and the Fork will be serving up a pita full of lamb meatballs with fava bean puree, red dragon cabbage slaw, and cucumber mint yogurt ($10). Veggie option available. BYO chianti.

See you at the pier . . . or else it gets the hose again!

John Waters’ HAIRSPRAY . . . coming 8/7!

5 Aug

Here it is. The original cult classic HAIRSPRAY directed by the one and only king of camp John Waters. It’s the early 1960s all over again via 1988. Ricki Lake made her acting debut playing spunky Tracy Turnblad, who sets out to be a dancer on the local tv show, The Corny Collins Show competing against reining queen Amber for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963. From the bouffant to the beehive to dance moves like “the bird” and lots of hairspray, watch Tracy help battle segregation and racial injustice. This star studded film was the last for Divine who passed away shortly after production. Performances by Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, and Jerry Stiller add to the magic of the movie.

HAIRSPRAY is brought to you by our awesome sponsors who make it all possible. This week we have Sunny’s Bar  and Hometown Bar-B-Que who will be serving up some pit-smoked meat just for you. There will be a Smoked French Dip with chips ($8, chips $1) and lemonade ($2). The combo goes for $10. There will also be a veggie option. As always Steve’s Key Lime Pie will take care of your sweet tooth with their famous key lime pie. They stay open late during the film series just for us.

Based on the popular children’s novels, CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS is voiced by Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal and answers the age-old question: What would happen if I hypnotized my super-mean principal and turned him into an underwear-clad crimefighter?

Pair that up with a gelato from Dolce, who is making a special appearance for this screening, and that’s a meal worthy of a superhero.
