This Eddie Murphy classic answers the age-old question: Where does a poor-little-rich crown prince of Zamunda go to find a bride? Why, Queens of course! (And more precisely, a now unrecognizable Long Island City–but, hey, back then that’s where you went for all your romantic needs, not to mention fast food franchise rip-offs.) Murphy re-teams with TRADING PLACES director John Landis and stars alongside James Earl Jones and Arsenio Hall in this 80s comedy classic, brought to you this Tuesday by MOVERS NOT SHAKERS and RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND! The Pound’s food truck, Big Red, will be on site serving three kinds of lobster rolls ($17 each), hot dogs ($5), and more; Steve’s Key Lime will stay open late slinging their tarts and swingles; and F & M Bagels will be on hand with beverages. So bust out your Soul Glo, cue up your Sexual Chocolate records, and we’ll see you at the pier!
JURASSIC PARK . . . coming 7/7!
5 JulWe see you sitting there, dejectedly eating your leftover potato salad and hotdogs amid spent roman candles and sparklers, forlorn that the holiday weekend is over. But while the countrywide party that is our nation’s birthday may be behind us, the summer-long party that is Red Hook Flicks is just beginning! And have we got a monster-sized opening night for you.
Just a few weeks ago JURASSIC WORLD broke all box office records to become the biggest opening weekend of all time. Now you can see where it all began with Steven Spielberg’s original dino-chomps-man extravaganza, JURASSIC PARK! Based on Michael Chricton’s blockbuster novel, the film stars Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, and Samuel Jackson as they desperately attempt to outsmart a nasty pack of genetically engineered dinosaurs on the rampage.
JURASSIC PARK is presented by SHARED and EARLY BIRD FOODS + SALVATORE BKLYN. EARLY BIRD and SALVATORE will be serving porchetta sandwiches with home made pickles ($10) and granola bars ($3); STEVE’S KEY LIME will be open across the parking lot and serving their pies, tarts, and swingles; and KING LECHE CREMES will be on site with their hand-crafted goats milk ice cream bars. Show starts at 8:30 PM. See you at the pier!

Neighborhood Choice: ON THE WATERFRONT . . . coming 8/26!
24 Aug
It’s hard to believe but this tuesday is our final film of the 2014 series– and it’s also the one that you, the audience, voted for! Our Neighborhood Choice this season is Elia Kazan’s 1954 classic ON THE WATERFRONT. Set in Red Hook, but filmed in Hoboken, ON THE WATERFRONT is based on a series of Pulitzer-Prize winning articles by Malcolm Johnson that examined the crime-riddled world of the New York docks. The film stars Marlon Brando as the once-promising boxer Terry Malone as he attempts to stand up to his corrupt union bosses, and also features Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Steiger, and, in her big-screen debut, Eva Marie Saint. It was nominated for a dozen Academy Awards, and won eight, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Brando, and Best Supporting Actress for Saint.
ON THE WATERFRONT is brought to you by MOVERS NOT SHAKERS and RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND, who will be serving their extraordinary lobster rolls (both Connecticut and Maine styles–$16), Red Hook Dawgs ($4), and Cape Cod Chips ($2). Plus as always, Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies will be open late across the parking lot and selling their tarts, pies, and swingles, King Leche Cremes will be on hand with their hand-crafted goats milk ice cream, and Heba Deli will be serving beverages. So come on down and celebrate the end of summer in style!
INDEPENDENCE DAY . . . coming 8/19!
17 AugIt’s hard to believe, but this tuesday is our second-to-last film in the 2014 season and we’re gearing up to go out with a bang with INDEPENDENCE DAY! Roland Emmerich’s 1996 sci-fi disaster film follows the surivors of a planet-wide attack on Earth as they make a last-ditch effort to fend off the alien invadors. Starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Randy Quaid, Robert Loggia, James Rebhorn, Vivica A. Fox, and Harry Connick, Jr., INDEPENDENCE DAY is presented by WATERFRONT KITCHENS and MARK’S PIZZA. MARKS’s will be serving up pizza by the slice; STEVE’S KEY LIME will be open serving their pies, tarts, and swingles; and KING LECHE CREMES will be on site with their hand-crafted goats milk ice cream bars. Fundraiser Update: BREAKING NIGHT screens this sunday
17 MayAt this Sunday’s fundraiser we have a couple of special shorts screening that we’re super excited about, including BREAKING NIGHT by Red Hook’s own Yolanda Ross. You might recognize Yolanda from her acting work on HBO’s TREME or on stage with New York’s Labrynth Theater Company. BREAKING NIGHT, also starring Clarke Peters (THE WIRE, TREME), is her directorial debut and won Best Short Film at last year’s San Diego Indie Film Festival.
We’re really honored that Yolanda’s sharing her work with us, so come on out to Bait and Tackle this Sunday at 5, have some great food from our sponsors, vote for Neighborhood Choice, find out what’s screening on the pier this summer, and see BREAKING NIGHT!
