Tonight! MEN IN BLACK

12 Jul

The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for New York. You know where it will be cool? At Valentino Pier.

Come on out tonight for MEN IN BLACK and catch a few summer breezes off the water.

The movie will start around 8:30 p.m. (depending on nightfall).

Be sure to stay hydrated. And while no booze is allowed in the park, we’ll have water and soda for sale for $1. And the Red Hook Lobster Pound will be on site selling lobster rolls and more. For a treat, we have popcorn for $1 from Home/Made (who donates all the proceeds to the film series).

Rule 2: Yes, Lawn Chairs are Welcome

12 Jul

Yes, you are welcome to bring your lawn chairs to the movies. But please be courteous of others. If you are sitting in lawn chairs, keep them to the back and sides of the lawn. Do not set up chairs — of any type — in the middle of the viewing area. If you do, you will be asked to move.

Rule 1: Yes, Dogs are Welcome

11 Jul

My name is Leroy. I get to come to the movies because I am a good and quiet dog.

Yes! The rumors are true: You can bring your dog to Red Hook Summer Movies. But, there are a few caveats:

1. They must be on leash

2. They must be quiet — no barking or disrupting the movie

3. They must be friendly and courteous of those around them. (errr, maybe that applies to the owners more than the dogs.)

4. You must pick up after your dog.

5. If organizers ask you to take your dog home, please do so.

July 12, 2011: Men in Black!

7 Jul

I call it MEN IN BLACK. My friend Shannon likes to call it PUG IN BLACK. Whatever you call it, the adventures of Kay, Jay and Frank the Pug are about to hit the big screen at Valentino Pier. They’re protecting the Earth from the scum of the universe.

Be sure to come hungry: The Red Hook Lobster Pound, the evening’s sponsor, will be on site selling lobster rolls and more crustacean-y goodness. AND there will be warm gourmet popcorn from Home/Made for just a buck (proceeds all benefit the movie series).

Film rolls around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Valentino Pier.

Summer 2011 Lineup

13 Jun

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Red Hook Films benefit last night. We raised nearly $1,000, far surpassing expectations. Thank you, Red Hook. You are amazing. This will help us upgrade our projector and sound.

For those of you who couldn’t be with us, the SCHEDULE is now posted.

And if you were on site, you know that PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE was the winner for the “neighborhood choice” film. We picked the first 9 movies of the season and let Red Hook choose the final film to be shown. And Pee Wee took it in a landslide.

We’ll see you on Tuesday nights at Valentino Pier, beginning July 12. Films start around 8:30 p.m.; come early for a picnic spot.

2011 Season Coming Soon!

13 Mar

Elvis the Dog sez: The 2011 season is coming soon!

We’re in the planning process now and will be announcing our schedule in the coming months. And as always, it will be a low-key, dog-friendly affair.

Watch here for details about the fundraiser and party where we’ll unveil the season.

In the meantime, if you’ve got a favorite movie you’d like to see, leave it in the comments.

Can’t wait to see you at the pier.

Benefit for Yayha

17 Jan

Many of you know Yayha, a long-term fixture in Red Hook. Maybe some of you don’t.

He recently moved to LA a few months ago to pursue his acting career but was called back to the East Coast to deal with some health and family issues. Two weeks after having heart surgery, his family’s home in Maine burned to the ground on Christmas morning.

One person died in the fire and Yayha and his family lost everything.

So the good folk at the Bait & Tackle are organizing a fundraiser for him this Saturday night. There will be gift certificates from the Good Fork and lots of good stuff to get in the raffle.

But, you can also donate to him here. We’re trying to raise enough money to help buy a computer and maybe an iPod since he loves to walk and always has his headphones on.

Can you spare a few bucks to help a fellow Red Hooker in need? Donate via PayPal below.

Note: This is not tax deductible or in any way a charitable donation in any sense other that helping fellow Red Hookers is just an act of charity
